Cobalt Blue Slag
$54.00
I discovered a material called Slag while looking thru a box of minerals at a Gem & Mineral Show. Slag is a glassy looking substance that is a by product from intensely heating iron, copper, and other metals. This piece is a deep blue and had very few imperfections so we put it on the lapidary saw. I added yellow beads to complete the look.
Earrings included.
Description
It was considered trash hundreds of years ago, but with the world’s current concerns for sustainability, slag products are being successfully marketed and put to use as building materials, road construction and bridge building. I have found several good chunks of brilliantly colored slag such as this one that have looked beautiful when polished for jewelry. You will see a photograph of a display at the WMODA with this piece and another which is pink and white slag. Earrings included.
